Appendix C item (lost stones for which no illustration has survived)
Thacker (1987, 290) described a socket-stone as built into a field wall at SJ 978714, having been moved slightly from its original position. John Langdill (in litt. 7 January 2005) confirms that it is no longer to be found there. There can be no certainty that it was a pre-Norman carving.
