Description

A (broad): Decorated with a spiral plant-scroll, the scroll having one visible strand on the only complete element and two on what may be another (truncated) scroll element above. On the left-hand side is a strand which links the two scrolls, with a central horizontal bar between and separating them. At the bottom a central vertical strand descends to the broken edge of the stone. The centre of the complete scroll contains a round cluster of berries, possibly as a rosette. On the extreme left is a wide flat edge moulding.

B (narrow): Missing, the stone being broken away

C (broad) and D (narrow): Obscured and unattainable

Discussion

Probably part of a cross-shaft, this is similar to Bakewell 2, but no triangular leaf pattern is visible between the scrolls. Again, the scroll appears to be a simplified version of that found on Bakewell 1, especially that on 1B and are often regarded as later monuments.
