Description

Panel with a motif which may be plant ornament with lobed and pointed leaves. There are pellets in each corner, and the panel is framed by beading enclosed in two bands. There is a slight taper to the piece which could indicate that it is part of a cross-shaft set in upside down, or alternatively it may be some form of architectural element.

Discussion

Like the other fragments from Avebury its plant ornament seems to be inspired by acanthus, and it could be part of the same suite as Avebury 2.
